DAY 1

Zermatt 5 Lakes Hike

The weather on the day we did the 5 lakes hike wasn’t perfect but we still got to see some amazing views. Clouds tend to cast over the Matterhorn in the afternoon. We recommend doing this hike first thing in the morning.

Starting Point: Blauherd Station – Stellisee – Grindjisee – Grünsee – Moosjisee – Leisee – Ending Point: Sunnegga Station

Distance: 9.8 km (6.1 miles) Duration: about 3 hours

Zermatt to Blauherd Station: Ticket 20.5 CHF (with Swiss Half Fare Card). Take a cogwheel to Sunnegga then take a cable car to Blauherd.

Blauherd Station to Sunnega Station: Follow the sign “5-Seenweg”. (5 lakes hike is marked on the signposts as “5-Seenweg”) This hike is downhill and you will pass 5 lakes along the way.

Sunnega Station to Zermatt: Take the same cogwheel back to Zermatt.

Zermatt Matterhorn Viewpoint

Only 15 minutes walk from Zermatt Station, you can get to Zermatt Matterhorn Viewpoint. We highly recommend coming here when the sky is clear. The night view will be stunning too.

Address: Mürini, 3920 Zermatt, Switzerland

DAY 2

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (Klein Matterhorn)

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise was similar to Jungfraujoch. They have a viewing platform, Glacier Palace, and a cinema lounge. You can ski all year long there. We’ve heard Snow Tubing was free but unfortunately it was closed due to lack of snow. If you’ve already been to Jungfraujoch and will not be skiing, you might just want to skip this place. Instead, just head straight to the Matterhorn Glacier Trail.

Zermatt to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise: Take Matterhorn Express from Zermatt to Trockener Steg mountain station. Then, take a cable car or the new Matterhorn glacier ride up to the Matterhorn glacier paradise.

Matterhorn Glacier Trail

Matterhorn Glacier Trail was our favorite hike. This rocky trail gets really close to the Matterhorn. You will feel like you are on a different planet. We recommend doing this hike earlier in the day before the clouds roll in.

Distance: 6.6 km (4.1 miles) Duration: about 2 hours

Starting Point: Trockener Steg – Hirli – Ending Point: Schwarzsee

From Matterhorn Glacier Paradise to Trockerner Steg: Take a cable car back to Trockener Steg and start your hike.

A short hike from Furi – Gorner Gorge – Zermatt

You can go back to Zermatt by taking a cable car, but this little hike was very fun! It will be 5 CHF to walk through Gorner Gorge. Then follow the signs to Zermatt.

Schwarzsee to Furi: take a cable car to Furi

Starting Point: Furi – Gorner Gorge(5 CHF) – Ending Point: Zermatt

Hope the weather will be on your side in Zermatt. Happy Travels!
